NATALIA DUSSO

Founder - CEO

Born in Greece in 1983, but raised in London, Natalia has always had ambition and success in her blood. Having started her adolescent life as a world-class swimmer it was within her education that she began to discover her own budding musical talent and realised the path that she had to pursue.

At 14, Natalia recorded her first demo in London with a variety of different producers and spent the next three years refining her writing skills.

She was soon discovered by Turkish popstar Mustafa Sandal, who proposed a duet and her career was launched under the performance name of ‘Natalia’. Not only did the single, ‘Hatirla Beni (Remember Me)’, go on to be a smash hit, selling over 800,000 records, but a sell out tour around Turkey followed – beckoning ‘Natalia’ as one of Europe’s hottest new talents.

Offers continued to flood in from her native land, with her success still holding the heart of the public consciousness. Mustafa Sandal was keen to do another duet with Natalia, and ‘Aska Yurek Gerek ‘(You Need One Heart To Love)’ was released in 2003, exceeding the success of the first single selling over 1 million records. Her decision to go back to her roots was validated.

Off the back of the hit record and tour, Number 1 Music (Hurriyet Newspaper) signed Natalia for her first Greek language album which she wrote herself and the success story continued. The album flew to the top of the Turkish charts and was named the Best Foreign Album Of The Year and ‘Natalia’ Best Female Vocalist by the country’s music television channel.

Having now certified her status as a European superstar Natalia was offered a full role in the number 1 hit TV Series, ‘Yabanci Damat (The Foreign Groom)’ where she was required to act in Greek and Turkish.

The series was voted the Best TV Series of the Year in 2005 in Turkey.

Natalia’s success as a Greek woman in Turkey sparked a lot of debate amongst the country’s politicians, with the relationship between the two countries obviously being fractious. However, she was immune from the debate, being seen in the public eye as a role model and ambassador for Greek and Turkish relations.

With an established career in Turkey, and further success with the TV series in Greece, Natalia decided to head to her country of birth where she was swiftly offered a major record deal with V2 records. Her album in Turkey climbed to the top and remained there for 19 weeks.

There she produced a Greek album, but typically hired Turkish producers and Turkish musicians. The album was released to great acclaim and ‘Natalia’ was soon performing in front of 3000+ crowds 5 nights a week for 6 months in Athens alongside some of Greece’s biggest stars, including Antonis Remos, Anna Vissi, Michalis Hatzigiannis and Stamatis Gonidis.

She then went on to write the biggest hit of the summer “Val To Terma” together with Christos Dantis and Nikos Sarris performed by Nikos Oikonomopoulos with over 45 million views on YouTube.

Natalia returned to London for an extremely short stay and continued into her next chapter; packing her bags and jetting off to Manhattan, NY to live.

Her talents and reputation were immediately recognised over there, receiving an offer from Jeff Fenster (Vice President) Def Jam Records after being introduced to him by Chris Gotti (Co – Founder) Murder Inc Records and beginning to work on a newly refreshed hip-hop track. Whilst recording the album, she met P.Diddy via a collaboration with reputed producer and Bad Boy Records head honcho, Herb Middleton, and added him to the ever growing fold of Natalia followers.
During her stay in New York, Natalia was introduced to Andre Harrell (Founder Uptown Records, CEO of Motown) who took her under his wing and introduced her to many important names in the industry and later accompanied him at the MTV Music Awards in Barcelona.
At this point, Natalia’s instinct kicked in realising that this was not the route she wished to take she turned down her record deal, despite recording a slew of great tracks.

During this time, Natalia was discovered by Ron Fair (President A&M Records) who flew her to Los Angeles, California to meet with Jimmy Iovine (Co – Founder of Interscope Records & CEO Interscope Geffen A&M) to discuss a project involving Dr Dre and DJ Quick.

Soon after, Natalia was discovered by Top Entertainment lawyer Peter Lopez who not only legally represented her as an artist but was managing her career including other artists such as
Michael Jackson, The Eagles and many more and was also the producer of the film ‘Selena’.
However, in April of 2010 he tragically died following the death of Michael Jackson.

Natalia decided to set herself a new challenge in the country in which she grew up; she returned to London to expand her horizons, build a band and explore her everlasting love of rock and roll.

Swiftly immersing herself in the London rock scene, working with exciting young writers and with producers such as Greg Haver (Massive Attack, Manic Street Preachers) Tony Platt (ACDC, Foreigner, Bob Marley)Anthony Rossomando  (Dirty Pretty Things, The Libertines, Lady Gaga), Ben Harris (Dirty Vegas), Luke Morley from “Thunder” and many more. Her star continues to rise.

Having found an exceptional group of likeminded musicians from the likes of Little Man Tate, The Razorlight touring band and many more, ‘Dusso and the Holy Smokes!’ were born drawing their influences from psychedelic sounds of the 60s and 70s, profound poetic lyrics echoing the spirit of classic Dylan, and infusing it all with homage to new wave English rock.

Years later, Natalia received a script from writer Lisa Scarola where she was asked to play and audition for the role of Maria Callas and star alongside Al Pacino and Gary Oldman. However, the movie was never made.
